Patients who are missing all or most of their teeth face significant challenges, such as difficulty eating and speaking, that can be detrimental to their quality of life. Thankfully, modern dentistry offers a variety of restorative treatment options that are designed to restore a patient's smile to its full function and beautiful form – no matter how many teeth may be missing. One of the most popular restorative treatment options for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth is treatment with All-on-4.

What Is All-on-4 Treatment?

All-on-4 (sometimes called All-on-4 dental implants, All-on-4 dentures, or implant-supported dentures) is a revolutionary restorative treatment solution for patients who are missing all or most of their teeth (or either arch of teeth). All-on-4 consists of a denture-like arch of teeth that is permanently fixed to four (or more) strategically placed dental implants.

Dental implants are screw-like, dental prosthetics that are implanted directly into a patient's jawbone to mimic the natural root systems of teeth. They osseointegrate with the jawbone and can then support a dental crown, dental bridge, or a set of dentures as they do with All-on-4 treatment.

The Advantages of Restoring Your Smile With All-on-4

While traditional dentures have come a long way in terms of improvements to their design, personalization, fit, and comfort, they can still present problems and challenges for patients. They require maintenance, daily care, and adjustments, and they don't stimulate a patient's jawbone which means the bone can deteriorate over time and change your appearance.

Treatment with All-on-4 offers the same benefits as dentures (i.e. replacing all of your teeth) in addition to a whole host of advantageous benefits, such as:

  • Easy Wear - All-on-4 dental implants are easy to wear. They require zero dental adhesives to hold them in place, and they feel much more natural inside the mouth compared to traditional dentures.
  • Increased Security - Securely anchored to four dental implants, All-on-4 won't slip or move around inside your mouth as traditional dentures can.
  • Increased Comfort - Securely fitted, All-on-4 does not move around inside the mouth, rubbing against the soft tissues and creating sores the way that traditional dentures can.
  • Easier Care - All-on-4 can be cared for just like natural teeth with regular brushing and flossing. We also recommend the addition of a water flosser to your oral hygiene routine to keep your gum tissue clean and healthy.
  • Jawbone Health - Secure to four strategically placed dental implants, All-on-4 stimulates the jawbone like natural teeth. This triggers the generation of bone matter, keeping your jawbone healthy and strong.

What to Expect When Getting All-on-4

The All-on-4 treatment process begins with a consultation and examination. During this appointment, we examine your mouth, assess your health, talk with you about your treatment goals, and collect a set of diagnostic images that will help us determine whether or not you are a candidate for receiving dental implants. Additionally, these images help us to design your treatment plan and create a customized set of dental implants and dentures designed to fit you perfectly, restore your smile, and revitalize your appearance.

The next step of All-on-4 treatment is the dental implantation process. This process may or may not begin with a bone grafting procedure designed to shore up your jawbone to ensure it is strong enough to support dental implants. This procedure is followed by a period of healing and bone regeneration. Once the jawbone is ready, we can place the dental implants during one or more placement procedures. Implant placement is followed by a period of healing during which the implants undergo the process of osseointegration, becoming securely fixed in the jawbone.

Once the implants are in place, we create the dentures that will be fixed to the dental implants and then use a system of abutments and dental cement to permanently fix the dentures to your dental implants.
